new Studio-User intake program

The New Studio-User Intake Program includes a three-phase process designed to ensure new studio-users have the information needed to safely and confidently use London Clay Art Centre's equipment and materials independently. It will also help artists understand their responsibilities as a studio-user and how best to contribute in ways that will ensure the health and safety of LCAC's other artists, as well as the longevity of our beloved facility.

To become a full studio-user, you must be 18 years of age or older and must follow this three-phase process:

PHASE ONE: Fill out a New Studio-User Application form after:
At least three 8-week courses or 72-hours of instruction at LCAC, with a signed recommendation from your last instructor that you are ready to transition to using the facility independently. Download the New Studio-user Application in PDF format or in DOC format.
OR
Provide proof of experience with clay in another location – letter of recommendation from a clay artist/administrator, or provide a portfolio of work.
OR
Provide a letter of recommendation from a ceramics teacher at a college or high school such as Sheridan College or BealArt.

PHASE TWO: Attend a mandatory Orientation and Training class session at LCAC
Upon successful application, you will be required to take a class session comprising 8 classes of 3 hours each (24 hours total) for a fee of $180 + tax). The goal is for everyone to have a solid foundation to be an exemplary studio user, know where to find everything in the studio, and feel supported during the transition from student to independent studio-user.
It is mandatory for all new studio-user applicants to attend the Orientation and Training Session. Check with the LCAC administrator (form at bottom of this page) for the date of the next training session. If you are unable to attend, you will have to wait until the next intake.
To maintain your skills, please consider taking another class until the next intake.

PHASE THREE: Complete a 4-month trial period
After the mandatory Orientation and Training session, you will need to pay the fee to cover your first 4 months of open studio access, plus provide a $20 deposit for an LCAC key fob.
The 4-month trial period will allow you and us to decide if LCAC's studio environment is a good fit for you. During the 4 months, other artists and the staff at LCAC can answer your questions and provide guidance to help you become more familiar with the facility and its procedures.
At the end of the 4 months, if everyone agrees to move forward, you will be provided an invoice to pay the remainder of the annual fee before becoming a Full Access Studio-User.

LCAC's Orientation and Training sessions are offered in September, January, and May. To start the application process, please download the form using the links above, fill it out, and email it to technician@londonclayartcentre.org.
