new studio-user member intake program
The new member intake program includes a three-phase process designed to ensure new studio users have the information needed to safely and confidently use the facility. It will also help you understand your responsibilities as a member and how best to contribute in ways that will ensure the health and safety of your fellow artists, as well as the longevity of our beloved facility.
To become a full studio-using member, you must be 18 years of age or older and must follow this three-phase process:
PHASE ONE: Fill out a new member application form after:
Completing at least three 8-week courses (or 72 hours of instruction) at LCAC and a recommendation from your last instructor that you are ready to transition into using the facility independently. (download instructor verification form)
OR
Providing proof of experience with clay in another location – letter of recommendation from a clay artist or portfolio of work.
OR
Providing a letter of recommendation from a ceramics teacher at a college or high school.
PHASE TWO: Attend a mandatory 3-hour training session at LCAC
For a $35 + HST fee you will learn what you need to know to become a valuable studio-using member who makes a positive contribution to the running of the facility.
It is mandatory for all new member applicants to attend a 3-hour training session at LCAC. One evening and one daytime slot will be offered for each intake period. If you are unable to attend either date, you must wait until the next intake.
If you are unable to attend the training, please consider taking another class to maintain your skills until the next intake.
PHASE THREE: Complete a 4-month probationary period with access to mentors
At the end of the training session you will be required to pay a $20 deposit fee for your key fob as well as payment for the 4-month probationary period. An invoice will be provided on the day of training. You can pay with cash, cheque, or by credit card.
*During the 4-month probation, hours of entry at LCAC will be restricted to 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily with access to experienced clay artists who will act as mentors for new members. They can answer questions and provide guidance to help you become more familiar with the facility and its procedures. Mentors will also be assessing your performance with respect to studio hygiene, use of space, following the Code of Conduct, etc.
If you successfully complete the 4-month probationary period, you will be asked to pay the remaining fee and be given a full studio membership with 24/7 access to the facility.
*Please Note: Hours of entry are limited to all members due to COVID-19 (currently 9am to 8pm)
